Battersea 150 Year Anniversary Gala
Battersea 150 Year Anniversary Gala

On 25 November the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home hosted a star-studded gala to celebrate their 150-year anniversary while also raising money to support the charity. Nearly 500 guests including staff, volunteers and many celebrities attended the event.

The red carpet was rolled out at the Battersea Power Station, where all the guests were officially greeted by the “Doggy Guard of Honour” - a total of 150 Battersea dogs lined up with their handlers. It was a cold night but the dogs stayed warm by wearing cozy knitted jumpers under matching Battersea dog coats made just for the event. These dogs represented the many animals up for adoption at Battersea, and were on their best behaviour in hopes they might spot a new owner in the crowd.

As guests were walking in most couldn’t resist getting to know some of these dogs. Craig Revel Horwood, judge on “Strictly Come Dancing” enjoyed spending some time with Mimi, an American Bulldog. Mimi has been waiting at the shelter for a new home for over three months. Several of the Miss Great Britain finalists fell in love with Nancy, a tiny Chihuahua. Patrick the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was the easy favourite of comedienne Catherine Tate. She thought they looked good together because they were both gingers!

Celebrity Amanda Holden was the official host of the event. The guests enjoyed a lavish show with some of the music world’s most well-renowned artists. Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May were happy to lend their talents to such a worthy cause. May remarked that he loves dogs and has spent the last year trying to bring awareness to the plight of homeless animals. Roger Daltry from The Who and Patti Russo from Meat Loaf were also happy to perform at the event.

There was a surprise performance from the Phantom of the Opera cast, and X-Factor’s Alexandra Burke performed several of her hits which got the whole audience dancing in the aisles. The event also included an auction of luxury items and travel packages. One of the most popular items was a trip to the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand which sold for £11,000.

This winter, your dog can hit the town looking glamorous while keeping warm with one of our beautiful dog coats. Our Waterproof Luxury Dog Coat comes in several beautiful colours including Pink, Baby Blue, Navy and Maroon. And let it snow, because the Waterproof Luxury Dog Coat is fur lined and windproof.
