Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Adopt French Co-Star

Golden Globe winner Robert Downey Jr. has a new movie coming out this month called “Due Date”. In it Downey stars as Peter Highman, a soon-to-be father who must hitch a ride with an aspiring actor in hopes of getting home before his baby is born. The movie features an adorable French bulldog named Sunny. Downey has to pretend to hate the dog but in real life he liked her so much he wanted to adopt her!

One of the first scenes filmed for the movie took place in a Waffle House. Sunny was seated at the table in a booster seat being fed bacon and eggs. It was a great opportunity for them to bond and their relationship grew stronger throughout the filming. Sunny was only 18 months old when filming began, and they worked together daily for the next six months.

Often when movies featuring animals are being filmed the animals are handled by their trainers the majority of the time. However in “Due Date” Sunny plays a major role that required her to spend most of her time with Downey and the rest of the cast members.

Zach Galifianakis co-stars as Sunny’s owner and carries Sunny around through most of the movie. He and Downey always had treats on hand for her backstage, and enjoyed letting her run around the hotels where they stayed. Everyone on the crew fell in love with Sunny.

But she had a special effect on Downey, who had never even thought about owning a dog before. He inquired about adopting Sunny when the movie was finished but her breeder did not want to part with her. They agreed that when Downey is settled down and ready to adopt a dog they will get in touch and see what other French bulldog puppies the breeder has at that time.
